Many adults who did not graduate from high school have developed skills through work, community, family, and study experiences. The GED Tests allow those adults to demonstrate academic abilities that are equivalent to those of high school graduates. After you pass the five tests, you will receive a credential that certifies your 12th grade-level abilities in reading, writing, social studies, science, and mathematics.
To begin preparing for the GED, the Virginia Race to the GED web site has links to three resources:
- Online Classes - PBS LiteracyLink has online classes for GED/pre-GED and more.
- Online Videos - VCU offers 39 GED educational videos online.
- Public Television - Check the schedule online for your local PBS station's GED programming.
If you have a valid email address you can sign up online to register for a GED testing date at the GED123 web site. Or you can contact one of the local GED providers listed below to receive information on testing dates.
